ArcelorMittal Poland Signs Contracts with Kompania Weglowa
03/24/2010 - Kompania Węglowa will supply coking coal for the next five years to two coking plants owned by ArcelorMittal Poland. Within the scope of the second contract, ArcelorMittal Poland is to supply Kompania Węglowa with mining supports.
ArcelorMittal Poland recently signed a five-year contract on coal supplies with Kompania Węglowa, as well as a contract for supply of mining supports.
Kompania Węglowa will supply coking coal for the needs of two coking plants owned by ArcelorMittal Poland: ZK Zdzieszowice and a coking plant at the company’s Krakow unit. Detailed arrangements defining the final volume of supplies, parameters of coal supplied each year, and its prices will be determined in yearly agreements.
Within the scope of the second contract, ArcelorMittal Poland is to supply Kompania Węglowa with mining supports, which ensure stability and durability of excavations. The volume of supplies amounts to more than 45,000 tonnes.
“Signing these agreements is evidence of good cooperation between mining and steel industry. It is also worth emphasizing that this is a two-way cooperation,” said Sanjay Samaddar, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ArcelorMittal Poland. “We are pleased that we can secure long-term supplies of coking coal…and at the same time provide our business partner, Kompania Węglowa, with high-quality products from our steel plants.”
“ArcelorMittal is a very important partner to us. This is confirmed by the volumes of coking coal it purchases from Kompania Węglowa, which constitutes over 50% of coking coal offered by us,” said Mirosław Kugiel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kompania Węglowa.
