Australian Plant Selects Danieli Power Feeder Tech
10/31/2025 - Alter Steel, which is building Australia’s first greenfield mill in more than 40 years, has opted to deploy Danieli’s Digimelter and Q-One power feeder technology, Danieli reports.
Alter Steel in July selected Danieli to equip the long products facility, which will produce rebar, wire rod, hot-rolled mesh, and spooled coil and bar for the local construction markets. Set for completion in late 2027, the mill will be capable of producing 500,000 metric tons annually.
Danieli said its equipment will allow for environmentally sustainable melting operations.
“Fully compatible with renewable energy sources, the Digimelter will achieve CO₂ emissions of just 0.37 tons per ton of steel, an 80% reduction compared to traditional blast furnaces,” it said.
Coupled with its endless casting-rolling technology, which eliminates the need for billet reheating, the mill will produce finished products in less than two hours, according to Danieli.
