Baoshan Medium and Heavy Plate Branch Reaches August Production Objectives
09/21/2009 - Cumulative production of various types of heavy plates in Baoshan’s Medium and Heavy Plate Branch reached the August 2009 objective of 12.01 MT.
Cumulative production of various types of heavy plates in Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd.’s Medium and Heavy Plate Branch reached the August 2009 objective of 12.01 MT. Shipping steel accounted for more than 70% of total products, and exported products amounted to more than 1 MT, realizing monthly contract targets with a resource utilization rate of 93.23%.
The company claims that its heavy plate mill currently is the only end product manufacturing unit of medium and heavy plates. In an attempt to bring the mill to a “world-class” level, Baoshan stresses the realization of four objectives: to continuously exalt production capacity, accelerate expansion of product mix, improve resource utilization rate, and reduce manufacturing costs of heavy plates.
To fulfill its objective of producing 12 MT heavy plates per month, Medium and Heavy Plate Branch says it has conducted benchmarking and equipment management to overcome technological difficulties, such as high-pressure water instability and poor slab-cutting precision, through implementing 264 key projects concerning equipment precision since July.
The branch also has carried out quality improvement projects through training of all employees, enhancing mutual examination between downstream and upstream production, optimizing ten key quality control measurements, and controlling plate bending. Such measures, the company claims, have resulted in “remarkable achievements” in heavy plate key quality index control.
In terms of production organization and process management, the company says that the heavy plate mill has optimized heavy plate heating and rolling processing, taking into account product thickness, variety, rolling hardness, time limit of delivery, and quality requirements.
