Baosteel, Shanghai Toshiba Establish Joint Laboratory

A Baosteel-Toshiba SH joint laboratory has been formally established to accelerate new product development and product performance improvement. The two companies decided to regard Toshiba SH Technology Center and Baosteel Co., Ltd. Silicon Plant as technical liaison and the new joint laboratory as the cooperative platform of silicon steel development and its application on air-conditioner compressors.

The joint laboratory agreement clarifies the working principles, working contents, operational system, etc., and confirms the first six joint research projects such as the research of high-efficiency silicon steel for air-conditioner conversion compressors, the application of Baosteel EP coating product on the air-conditioner compressor, and the research of silicon steel application on compressor motors.

Deputy General Manager of Baosteel Group Dai Zhihao and Chairman of Board of Toshiba Shanghai Shen Jianfang attended the founding ceremony and together announced the establishment of the joint laboratory.

Toshiba SH, a professional air-conditioner compressor manufacturer, is a strategic customer of Baosteel and one of ten customers that enjoy the services of Baosteel Key Account Managers.

Baosteel specially developed B50AY-2 non-oriented silicon steel for Toshiba SH in January 2001 so it no longer depended on import. Baosteel says it has continuously strengthened new product development to facilitate compressor updates by Toshiba SH.

Baosteel notes that it occupies over 50% of the silicon steel and 100% of pickled plate at Toshiba SH.
