Baosteel Inks Contract for World’s Largest H2-Based DRI Plant
07/22/2022 - China’s Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel has selected the Tenova and Danieli’s Energiron technology to power a new direct reduction (DR) plant in the Guangdong Province.
According to Danieli, the new plant will be fueled by natural gas, coke oven gas and up to 100% hydrogen, making it the largest hydrogen-based DR plant in the world, Danieli said. The plant will be capable of producing 1 million metric tons annually.
“All Energiron DRI plants are hydrogen-ready by design and can start using hydrogen as reduction gas without equipment modifications,” Danieli said.
Start-up is scheduled for early 2024.
