A Baosteel project on a wireless trolley for measuring conveyor condition, researched by a group of three employees, was awarded second prize in the Factory Group of the Germany 2012 Xplore Automation Competition. Wang Hui of the Environment Department of Baosteel Energy, Qin Tong from an iron-make factory, and Zhou Yao of a cold-rolled mill, led by Li Yimin, a teacher of Human Resource Development Central, were members of the team.
The competition is supported by Germany United Economy and Technique Department and the Foreign Ministry, and attended by United Professional Certification Institute, Germany Electro Industry Institution, Germany Munich University, Germany Phoenix Electric Group, and Microsoft Germany. There were 80 projects from 25 countries taking part in the competition, and 29 projects entered the global finals competition in five different categories: Education, Recreation, Building, Environment, and Factory.
The wireless conveyor condition measure trolley is applied at Phoenix Automation Company. Combined with video, audio, ultrasonic and infrared sensors and a fire sensor, it is possible to use a trolley instead of a worker to reach difficult places for inspection, monitoring, and measurement. The trolley is not a production machine yet, but rather shows a development trend for such inspection techniques, the company noted.
