BIR: Scrap Use Dipped in 2024
05/29/2025 - Scrap consumption in key regions and countries declined slightly in 2024, dropping by 1% from the prior year, reports Recycling Today.
Citing new figures from the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR)’s World Steel Recycling in Figures, Recycling Today said more than 460 million metric tons of ferrous scrap were melted last year, with drops reported in China, the United States, Japan and South Korea.
However, the European Union, India and Turkey increased their year-over-year meltshop consumption, Recycling Today reported.
