BlueScope Names Chief Executive of Australia, New Zealand

In his new role, Davies will be responsible for 8,500 employees across the Australian steel products and New Zealand and Pacific Islands businesses. Together, they have an annual production rate of over 3.7 million metric tons and revenues over US$7 billion.

“I am excited by the opportunity to lead the Australia and New Zealand businesses into their next chapter, with a focus on our people, our customers and operational excellence. I’m also committed to uplifting safety performance and delivering on the major capital projects across the businesses,” Davies said.

Davies was named chief executive of New Zealand and Pacific Islands in January 2022. He was responsible for leading the mining, manufacturing and downstream businesses in New Zealand along with the Lysaght manufacturing and distribution businesses in the Pacific Islands.

Davies worked for Tata Steel Europe before joining BlueScope in 2008, holding multiple roles in New Zealand before he was appointed president of North Star BlueScope Steel in Delta, Ohio, USA, in 2017. He returned to New Zealand in 2020 to take the role of general manager of sales and marketing in 2020 before being appointed chief operating officer in 2021.

“Robin has a deep understanding of our business, our people and our markets, having worked for BlueScope for nearly 20 years. He brings a strong record of delivery, with a consistent focus on safety, customer service, cost discipline and operational performance,” said Archibald.

Until Davies’ appointment, interim chief executive of Australian steel products Gerald Cornelius will continue in his role, the company said.
