BlueScope Steel Appoints New Non Executive Director

BlueScope Steel Limited Chairman, Graham Kraehe announced the appointment of Doug Jukes as a non-executive director. The appointment takes effect October 20, 2008.
 
Jukes joins Kraehe as well as Ron McNeilly, Diane Grady, Daniel Grollo, Kevin McCann, Paul O'Malley (CEO), Paul Rizzo and Tan Yam Pin as the ninth member of the BlueScope Steel Board.
 
A chartered accountant by profession, Jukes is currently Global Head of People for leading international firm KPMG and a member of the firm’s International Executive Team. He has been a Partner of the firm for the last 23 years. From 2001 to 2007 he was National Chairman, Australia, Member of the International Board and International Council and Chair of the International People, Performance and Culture Group.
 
"Mr. Jukes brings to the Board of BlueScope Steel extensive experience in the fields of finance, accounting and global talent management,” commented Kraehe. “His appointment is a key step in the Board's succession planning and renewal strategy and further strengthens the financial expertise on the Board.”
 
In addition to his position with KPMG, Jukes is a member of the Advisory Council and Executive Committee and Chairman of the Development Committee of the Australian School of Business, Board Member and immediate past Chairman of the Starlight Children's Foundation, Chairman of the Qantas Foundation, and a Councillor of the Australian Business Community Network. He is also a member of the Sydney Advisory Council of the Centre for Social Impact.

Jukes will retire as a partner of KPMG with effect from October 17, but will act as a consultant to the firm. KPMG does not provide any audit services to BlueScope Steel.
 
Jukes, Kraehe and Tan will be offering themselves for re-election at the company’s next Annual General Meeting.
