British Steel Secures Order to Supply High-Speed Electric Railway in Türkiye
02/18/2026 - British Steel announced it has received an order from Türkiye to supply 36,000 metric tons of rail to ERG International Group for a high-speed electric railway.
The company said the rail will help create a 599 km line between Ankara and İzmir to cut rail travel time by over 10 hours between the capital and port city.
“Securing this prestigious contract — with the support of UK Export Finance — was a major achievement and underlines British Steel’s ability to build the sustainable track systems of the future,” said Lisa Coulson, chief commercial officer of British Steel.
The contract added 23 roles and has led to round-the-clock rail manufacturing operations for the first time in over 10 years, the company said.
“This contract has been the catalyst to us starting 24-7 rail manufacturing operations in Scunthorpe. We are also optimistic we can supply other steel products into this project and are working with ERG to support its future needs,” said Craig Harvey, British Steel’s commercial director, rail.
British Steel said the contract is for its 60E2 rail and they will deliver it in 36 m lengths throughout 2026.
