Canadian Government Launches Action Plan to Protect Ontario Industries
10/22/2026 - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, announced they will invest CA$8.7 billion and introduce new measures to protect Ontario steel, automotive and critical minerals industries affected by U.S. tariffs.
According to a press release from the office of the Prime Minister of Canada, the action plan includes protecting Ontario’s steel industry, fortifying its automotive industry and building out its critical mineral supply chain.
“The agreement we are announcing today is the next step in our ongoing partnership to provide tariff-impacted workers the certainty and stability they deserve while unlocking Ontario’s vast supply of critical minerals and building a more competitive and resilient economy that can stand up to anything that comes our way,” said Ford.
