Celsa Starts up Two More Danieli Spooler Lines

Danieli recently started up spooler lines at two Celsa Group plants, namely the Cardiff bar mill in U.K., and the Castellbisbal mill in Spain.

The two lines are designed for production of 8 to 32-mm diameter rebars into highly-compact 2.2-ton and 2.9-ton coils, at rates of 160 and 180 tonnes/hour, respectively. A third Danieli Spooler line is also due to start up at Celsa Huta Ostrowiec in Poland in summer 2007. Another Spooler line operates successfully at the Celsa Nervacero bar mill in Vizcaya, Spain, since early 2005.

Operation of these three new plants, together with the one in Nervacero will make Celsa the largest producer of spooled coils in Europe and in the world, with a designed overall production capacity of approximately 2.0 million tonnes/year, depending on production mix and market demand.

Based on twist-free winding of hot-rolled bars into ultra-compact, ultra-heavy coils, the Danieli Spooler process grants a unique cobble-free uncoiling capability that allows coils to be fed directly to the downstream cold processing lines without any intermediate operations such as uncoiling, stretching and recoiling. The process results in considerable benefits to both the hot rolling operation and to product end-users.
