Chinese Producer Taps Primetals Technologies to Upgrade 5-Strand Bloom Caster
05/21/2026 - Primetals Technologies announced it has been selected to upgrade a Chinese steel producer’s 5-strand bloom caster in eastern China.
The companies said the bloom caster will be upgraded with a withdrawal straightening unit (WSU) and two additional pinch rolls. The WSU will increase the reduction force to 200 metric tons from its previous 130 metric tons. The caster will have an estimated capacity of 1.2 million metric tons annually.
Primetals Technologies will also provide a secondary cooling concept to enable higher strand temperatures. The caster will feature DynaPhase, Dynacs 3D and DynaGap Soft Reduction 3D.
The companies said start-up is scheduled for the end of 2026.
