Coal Prices, China Capacity Pose Challenges for Japan's Steelmakers
04/28/2017 - Japan’s three top steelmakers are successfully passing along higher raw materials costs to customers, but challenges remain as they start a new fiscal year, reports the Nikkei Asian Review.
According to the publication, a surge in coking coal spot prices might give suppliers confidence to seek more for their product. And China’s overcapacity remains a concern.
"We worry about what happens when the balance [between Chinese internal supply and demand] starts to crumble," said Shinichi Okada, executive vice president at JFE Holdings.
