Commissioning Underway at New Nucor Mill
06/16/2026 - Nucor Corp. has begun commissioning components of its new sheet mill in West Virginia and is continuing to move toward an end-of-year start-up.
Speaking during the 2026 Global Steel Dynamics Forum, Nucor president and chief operating officer Steve Laxton said commissioning began last month, and the company will sequence the work through the remainder of 2026.
Designed to produce 3 million tons annually, the mill is Nucor’s single largest investment in its history. The mill is intended to serve the automotive, construction and industrial sectors.
Laxton said 2027 will be a ramp-up year for the facility, and, assuming the market bears out, the mill should be operating at 50% of capacity by then, he said.
The Global Steel Dynamics Forum continues Wednesday. Check back with AIST Steel News for more updates.
