Hertwich Engineering successfully commissioned a continuous homogenizing and sawing plant at Fonderie Pandolfo in Maniago, Italy. With the new billet production line Pandolfo produces the billets for its own extrusion plant and for sales, and processes the extrusion scrap within the plant, reducing costs.
The supply package of Hertwich Engineering comprised an ultrasonic inspection station, billet saw, gas-heated continuous homogenizing furnace, cooling station, and a packing station, in addition to automation of the entire system. The plant is designed for an annual net production of 60,000 tonnes of billets. Billet diameters range from 178 to 356 mm, but the billet saw is designed to handle billets up to a diameter of 432 mm.
