Converteam to Provide Engineering for Indian Plate Mill

Danieli & C SpA has awarded Converteam a contract for major electrical engineering products and services for a new steel plate mill in India. The contract is worth in excess of €20 million.
 
The new Rourkela plate rolling facility for Steel Authority of India (SAIL), located in the state of Orissa in northeast India, will have an initial yearly production capacity of 0.92 million tonnes of steel plate with a provision for future expansion to 1.674 million tonnes.
 
Converteam is responsible for the complete electrical package including design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning of equipment such as motors, drives, transformers, basic plant automation in cooperation with Danieli Automation, operator control desks, HMI, and a CCTV system.
 
Converteam is present in India with more than 400 personnel supporting engineering and commercial operations from its bases in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. The project will also draw on the company’s resources in the U.K. and Germany.
 
The new Rourkela plant is expected to be fully operational in less than three years.
