Core Furnace Systems recently completed start-up of a new 160-ton twin-tank vacuum degasser at Ipsco’s Montpelier, Iowa, facility.
The new vacuum degasser facility features a steam-generation plant, a hybrid combination of steam jet ejectors and liquid ring pumps, an inline vacuum filtration system, and vacuum tanks mounted on transfer cars. The system also includes an advanced process control system.
In addition to reducing hydrogen in the liquid steel, Ipsco’s new vacuum degasser will also be capable of decarburizing the steel, as well as reducing sulfur and oxygen content.
