Core Installs Walking Beam Reheat Furnace for WCI Steel
02/12/2008 - Core Furnace Systems completes successful start-up of a state-of-the-art walking beam furnace for WCI Steel’s plant in Warren, Ohio.
Core Furnace Systems recently completed the successful start-up of a walking beam furnace for WCI
Steel’s plant in Warren, Ohio.
WCI Steel uses the new 300-tons/hour furnace to reheat slabs that will be processed on the hot strip mill. The new fuel-efficient furnace is equipped with state-of-the-art low NOx burners.
The new walking beam furnace, which replaces three existing pusher-type furnaces, provides WCI with the ability to reheat longer slabs, resulting in a more-consistent product quality.
CORE designed and supplied the complete control and automation package for the furnace, including an advanced thermal model-based Level 2 control system.
CORE is a leader in the North American market for design and supply of reheat, heat treat, carbon processing and specialty furnaces as well as meltshop equipment. CORE also provides a wide-range of automation and control systems, as well as technical services. CORE has one of the largest domestic steel industry reference lists for reheat furnace Level 2 systems.
