Danieli, Kanthal and EMSTEEL Launch Pilot Project for Electric Process Gas Heating

The companies said the 1.3 MW electric process gas heater will use the existing Energiron DRI process developed by Danieli and Tenova. This will be the first installation of direct electric heating for process gas on an industrial scale.

The pilot unit is based on Danieli and Kanthal’s Prothal® DH technology. A compact and modular electric heating solution, it is designed to run in parallel with the fired heater currently in use.

Khalifa University will provide modelling of the DRI core process, electrical grid impact and renewable power variability.

Installation and commissioning are planned for 2026, the companies said.
