02/17/2010 - A new jumbo-size conticaster for large-size blooms from Danieli has operated successfully since November 2009 at Acciaierie Venete, an Italian SBQ producer. Danieli Centro Met also carried out reconstruction and upgrading of the four-strand No. 3 bloom caster at the No. 2 steel melting shop of Byelorussian Steel Works (RUE BMZ) of Zhlobin, Belarus.
A new jumbo-size conticaster for large-size blooms from Danieli has operated successfully since November 2009 at Acciaierie Venete, an Italian SBQ (special bar quality) producer for the European automotive industry.
The three-strand, 14-m radius bloom caster is the fourth Danieli continuous casting machine (CCM) installed in the Camin steelworks near Padua, replacing the old existing CCM No. 1.
The new machine is designed to cast up to 600-mm round blooms in a variety of top-quality steels, such as structural grades, forging, case hardening, quenching and tempering, springs, microalloy, and bearing qualities.
Danieli Centro Met also carried out major reconstruction and upgrading of the four-strand No. 3 bloom caster at the No. 2 steel melting shop of Byelorussian Steel Works (RUE BMZ) of Zhlobin, Belarus. The caster restarted operation in December 2009.
The modernization project, aimed at increasing the caster's operating flexibility and final product quality, has also made it possible to extend the casting capability to 200-mm round sections in addition to the previous range of rectangular sections.
Reconstruction involved the installation of the latest Danieli FastCast™ technology. The caster is now able to produce 800,000 tonnes per year of high-quality engineering steel grades. Danieli Automation supplied the automation and process control systems.
