Danieli Davy Distington to Supply Slab Caster for Baosteel

Baosteel, P.R. China, has awarded a contract to Danieli Davy Distington for a second slab casting machine, to be installed in BaoSteel’s Shanghai Plant.

Danieli’s scope of supply includes a new single strand machine with a yearly production exceeding 1.5 million tonnes/year of qualified slabs in special steels, structural steels, vessel, boiler and ship application steels. Slabs will be 200 or 250 mm thick and will range from 1500 to 2300 mm in width.

The machine will have a vertical curved design with a vertical length exceeding 2.6 meters, a 9.5 main radius and continuous bending & unbending roll diagram. The machine will feature a top feeding dummy bar, a complete breakout prevention system with thermal mapping of the mould, and a state-of-the-art INMO mould, including in-line width adjustment during casting. The caster will also include a hydraulically operated oscillator, OPTIMUM type segments designed for application of the Dynamic Soft Reduction process, and dynamically controlled air mist secondary cooling.

Danieli will also supply a complete automaton system, including predictive mathematical models for liquid pool control (LPC) and solidification process used for dynamic soft reduction (DSRC) and dynamic secondary cooling (DSC) system.

The Baosteel caster will be Danieli’s 20th slab strand installation utilizing INMO mould technology, the latest-generation patented mould, designed with a superior 0-clearance guidance system for outstanding slab surface quality. Baosteel had ordered an initial slab caster from Danieli six months prior to the current order.
