Danieli Helps Set Milestone in Bar Mill Production at SN Longos

Danieli notes that a new milestone was recently set in the rolling of long products at the SN Longos Seixal bar mill in Portugal: 50 meters per second producing 8-mm-diameter deformed bars, through the Danieli Morgårdshammar high-speed twin-channel system.

The twin-channel high-speed bar discharging system was developed and patented by Danieli in the early 1970s. The company says that since then the system has been successfully installed in 109 rolling mills (totaling 141 rolling strands) worldwide, both as new plants and as expansions or upgrades to existing facilities.

The twin-channel system suits the latest-generation, high-production merchant bar mills, according to Danieli, where smaller-size bars are slit at the pre-finishing stands and finished at high speed on two independent 4- or 6-pass Delta-type blocks, on two independent strands. In this way, plant capacity is increased, the company notes, achieving output levels exceeding 100 tonnes per hour with 8-mm-diameter bars.

The SN Longos - Seixal rolling mill for long products (Megasa Group), through several modernization stages all carried out by Danieli, was transformed from its original single-strand configuration into a 150-tonnes-per-hour, twin-strand bar and wire rod mill that features high-tech equipment and technologies for long products production.

The latest upgrading stage included the new Spooler line for production of rebar in high weight/high-compact/high-quality coils that was started up in September 2009.
