Danieli Integrated Minimill #1 Project Complete

Danieli has successfully completed integrated tests related to the Energiron direct reduction plant and steelmaking shop at Emirates Steel Industry, Abu Dhabi.

Consistent production, using the HiTemp pneumatic hot DRI charge system, has been accomplished exceeding contractual obligation, according to Danieli. Up to 27 heats per day were produced over the test period lasting 10 continuous days.

With the completion of these tests, the integrated minimill—featuring an Energiron DRI plant with an actual production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per year (contract was for 1.6 million tonnes per year), DRI continuous charge system via pneumatic transport, and 1.4 million tonnes per year meltshop feeding two new and one existing bar and wire rod rolling mills—is completed as well.

An ESI phase II project—1.8 million tonnes per year DRI-based minimill for the production of heavy sections up to 1-meter-wide beams—is under advanced construction progress and is expected to start producing the first semi products within 2010. Heavy section mill startup is expected in February 2012.

Both contracts have been awarded to Danieli on a LSTK (Lump Sum Turn Key) basis.
