The new Danieli steel meltshop installed at the Votorantim Group steel works in Resende, Brazil, to produce 1 million tonnes per year of billets has been operating successfully since October 2009.
The new plant—officially known as Votorantim Metais Unidade Resende—consists of a 100-tonne, 6.5-meter-diameter FastArc™ electric arc furnace, inert roof type LF, the associated FTP plant, and a 6-strand, 8-meter-radius FastCast™ continuous caster for production of 150-mm billets, plus auxiliary services and facilities.
The supply also included a 150-tonne scrap bucket charging crane and a 200-tonne hot metal ladle crane, both designed and supplied by Danieli Centro Cranes. Danieli Automation supplied the electrical and automation systems package for the whole plant.
A 400,000-tonnes-per-year flexible bar and section mill, also supplied by Danieli, operates successfully at Siderurgica Barra Mansa (also part of the Votorantim Group) since the end of 2008.
