Danieli Morgårdshammar to Upgrade DavSteel Bar Mill
07/19/2007 - Davsteel of South Africa contracts Danieli Morgårdshammar to modify its bar mill, targeting enhanced operating efficiency and standardization of the starting material for the wire rod mill.
DavSteel (Cape Gate Group), South Africa, recently contracted Danieli Morgårdshammar for the modification of its bar mill. Project goals include enhancing the plant’s efficiency and standardization of the starting material for the wire rod mill.
The present project foresees the replacement of the old three-high breakdown stand with a twist-free compact roughing mill comprising four ESS cantilever stands. This will result in a fully-continuous rolling mill arrangement, enabling the company to standardize the starting material for the wire rod mill (10-meter long, one-tonne billets), with consequent benefits on plant operation, availability and material yield.
The existing cooling bed will also be modified and completed with a water-spray system to improve the cooling capacity.
The mill will produce 10- to40-mm diameter plain and deformed bars, squares, up to 50-mm angles, and equivalent flat bars in low, medium, and high carbon steels, at rates of 50 tonnes per hour.
Originally supplied by Danieli in the mid-1970s, the bar mill has subsequently undergone some additional upgrades to reach the present configuration.
