Danieli Morgardshammar to Upgrade Ovako Imatra Rolling Mill
10/08/2007 - Danieli Morgardshammar will upgrade Ovako Imatra’s 250,000-tonne/year heavy section mill by replacing the mill’s old housing-type blooming stand with a new 830-mm diameter housingless-type reversing blooming stand and auxiliaries.
Ovako Imatra, Finland, has contracted Danieli Morgardshammar to upgrade its 250,000-tonne/year heavy section mill with the aim of further increasing plant efficiency and product quality.
For the upgrade, the mill’s old housing-type blooming stand will be replaced with a new 830-mm diameter housingless-type reversing blooming stand and auxiliaries. According to Danieli, the new reversing blooming stand will grant higher operation flexibility, faster changing time, better plant efficiency, and higher product tolerances.
The new blooming stand will produce the feeding sections for the exiting downstream finishing stands to produce large-size quality bars in the range of 90 to 200-mm-dia-rounds and corresponding squares, in high carbon, spring and bearing steels. These finishing stands had also supplied by Danieli in a previous upgrading step in the year 2002.
The same stand will also produce 135-mm semi-finished squares for feeding the smaller-size special steel bar mill to produce 25- to 85-mm diameter quality rounds and flat bars. The mill, which was also supplied by Danieli Morgårdshammar, has been in operation since the late 1980s.
Startup of the new blooming mill is scheduled for the facility’s 2008 plant summer stoppage.
