Danieli Receives Performance Certificate on Texas EAF Upgrade
03/29/2019 - Gerdau Long Steel North America’s Midlothian, Texas, mill has completed an upgrade to its B furnace and issued the final acceptance certificate, according to the technology supplier on the project.
In a statement, Danieli said Gerdau outfitted the electric arc furnace with its Q-MELT automation package, which is designed to lower energy and electrode consumption and reduce power-on time. The package includes Danieli’s MeltModel, a machine-learning system that can make on-the-fly operational adjustments to improve efficiencies.
“The Q-MELT suite makes it possible to reach in a brief period, and to maintain consistently, the best operational practices with immediate benefits to the performances and melting process consumption levels,” Danieli said in a statement.
Danieli said the mill deployed the new system in January and signed the final acceptance certificate within 15 days.
