Danieli Revamps Cooling Chamber at Cogne Acciai Speciali

The companies said the scope included design and installation of a new stainless steel cooling chamber in the caster’s mobile curved zone to fully cover the wet area affected by secondary spray cooling. Danieli preassembled the chamber and delivered it premounted for fast installation.

The revamp also included a new central supporting structure to sustain all fixed curved sections of the caster. It uses new roller modules and hoods for better heat containment and simpler operation and maintenance. It also has extraction guides for all operational electromagnetic stirrers.

Moving the mechanical components outside the wet zone will simplify maintenance while improving component durability and extended service life, the companies said. The support structure of the oscillating benches was also optimized.

The project was completed during a four-week summer shutdown.
