Danieli Selected to Replace DC EAF With New Digimelter for JFE BS Corp.
12/09/2025 - Danieli will replace JFE subsidiary JFE Bars & Shapes Corp.’s (JFE BS) existing DC electric arc furnace (EAF) with a new 120-metric-ton Danieli Digimelter featuring a Q-One system at Mizushima Works in the JFE Kurashiki facility of West Japan Works.
The companies said the new EAF will produce billets from recycled steel scrap which are rolled into reinforcing bars and structural shapes for construction and infrastructure projects.
Designed as a brownfield project, it will use existing infrastructure including the electrical cabin and most of the working platform. Solutions including Q-One® modular equipment, containerized hydraulic units and a customized FTP primary line make the modernization feasible while reducing overall costs. Advanced automation will enable real-time monitoring of liquid steel levels.
JFE Group said the upgrade supports its decarbonization strategy by reducing emissions and optimizing resource utilization.
The new EAF is scheduled for start-up in early 2028, the companies said.
The project follows collaborations between Danieli and the JFE Group including the application of Q-One Technology to the existing EAF at JFE BS Himeji Works and a new 320-metric-ton Digimeltshop to be installed at JFE Steel Kurashiki facility.
