Danieli-Supplied Casting Technology Exceeds Benchmarks at Jindal Steel
06/12/2026 - Danieli announced the two twin slab casters it supplied to Jindal Steel’s Steel Meltshop #2 in Angul, India, have exceeded their performance benchmarks.
The companies said the two twin slab casters can transform liquid steel into slabs with thicknesses of 180, 220 and 260 mm. The widths range from 800 to 1,700 mm while lengths range from 5.5 to 12 m. They have a capacity of about 7.2 million metric tons annually.
The plant surpassed its expected performance, with casting speeds of 2.75 m per minute for low-carbon grades, 2.0 m per minute for medium-carbon grades and 1.45 m per minute for peritectic steel grades. Ramp-up achieved a maximum of 47 heats in a single tundish cast over 33 hours, within 45 days of the hot test, the companies said.
With low carbon steel grades, the maximum throughput was 10.5 metric-tons-per-minute. Restranding also was 4 minutes faster than expected, finishing in 64 minutes rather than 68 minutes. Overall, the facility reached an output of 40 heats daily.
