Nucor Steel has contracted Danieli to extend the magnetic stacker at its Jewett, Texas, No. 1 bar and light section mill.

The Jewett facility’s 18-meter single-head magnetic stacker, originally installed and started up by Danieli in 2000, will be extended by an additional 6-meter long sector. The new sector will be added at the cooling bed side to facilitate operation in one 24-meter long or in two independent and symmetrical 12-meter long sectors.

Following the upgrade, the Jewett stacker will be capable of handling four 6-meter long bar layers, two 12-meter long bar layers, or one 18-meter long bar layer. The range of products could include up to 75-mm angles and channels, 25- to 100-mm flat bars and up to 35-mm plain and deformed rounds, in stacks weighing up to 5 tons, at rates of up to 110 tons/hour.

Danieli Automation will supply the electricals and automation and process control system.
