Halivourgiki Inc., Greece, recently contracted Danieli to complete its minimill in Elefsis with the installation of a state-of-the-art Danieli Spooler line.
With its new line, Halyvourgiki will produce 8- to 20-mm diameter quenched or microalloyed deformed bars in ultra-compact coils weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. The line will operate at finishing speeds of up to 35 meters/second and at production capacities of over 70 tonnes/hour.
Based on twist-free winding of hot-rolled bars into ultra-compact, ultra-heavy coils, the Danieli Spooler process grants a unique cobble-free uncoiling capability that allows coils to be fed directly to the downstream cold processing lines without any intermediate operations such as uncoiling, stretching and recoiling. The process results in considerable benefits to both the hot rolling operation and to product end-users.
The combined application of the new Spooler line with the EWR billet welding system for endless rolling will enable Halyvourgiki to produce customized-weight coils of up to 3.5 tonnes, regardless of the starting billet weight, with significant additional benefits for product marketability.
Danieli Automation will supply electricals and automation system for the new line. Startup is scheduled for the third quarter of 2008.
The present scorecard, with a total of 37 Spooling units supplied or under supply, reconfirms Danieli as the undisputed leader for this innovative technology, worldwide.
