Danieli will supply a 120-tonne ladle furnace to Nanjing Iron & Steel United Co. Ltd., P.R. China, as phase 2 of Nanjing's converter meltshop expansion project.

Danieli Centro Met signed a contract for the first phase of the meltshop expansion back in April 2002. Phase 1 included a 120-tonne ladle furnace and VD station, both of which are now in production. When the second ladle furnace is installed, the meltshop will be able to treat 1.7 million tonnes per year of liquid steel.

The expanded meltshop will be used to produce plate for shipbuilding as well as carbon, low alloy and high carbon structural steel and pipeline steel. Danieli will supply the key equipment and Level 1 and 2 automation systems.

Startup is foreseen by the first half of 2006.
