Danieli to Supply New Forging Line for SMP
01/22/2026 - Danieli Breda announced it has been selected to supply a new 70 MN forging line for special steels to Cogne Group-owned Special Melted Products Ltd. (SMP) for its facility in Sheffield, U.K.
“Project Vulcan enables SMP to continue to deliver critical products to aerospace, nuclear and other demanding industries, all manufactured with the expertise that has made SMP and Sheffield a global leader,” said Andy Richardson, chief executive officer and managing director of SMP.
The company said the forging line will have advanced hydraulic and automation systems developed by Danieli Breda with process simulation tools and predictive maintenance functions. It will have the ability for forging forces up to 70 MN and stroking rates over 100 cycles per minute.
“The new press for SMP combines high mechanical performance with advanced digital solutions, supporting the production of superalloys and specialty steels for the most demanding industrial sectors,” said Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, chief executive officer of Danieli.
The companies said it is scheduled to start operation in 2027.
