Danieli to Supply Second Spooler Line for Nervacero

A few months after the startup of its first Danieli Spooler line, which is now in commercial production, Nervacero SA, Spain, has awarded a contract to Danieli for a second line. The new line will be installed at the company’s double-strand rolling mill in Vizcaya.

Danieli’s spooler process features twist-free winding of bars into ultra-compact, ultra-heavy coils, resulting in a unique cobble-free un-coiling capability.

This enables spooled coils to be fed directly to the downstream cold processing lines without any other intermediate operation (such as uncoiling, stretching and regular recoiling). There is also a significant savings in transformation costs.

Nervacero is the first plant in Spain to install this technology, yielding substantial benefits for bar-in-coil production.

Installation of the second spooler line will enable Nervacero to exploit the mill’s output to its full 150 tonne/hour capacity for the production of coiled bars. Presently, the rolling mill operation is based on one strand delivered to the spooler line and the other to the cooling bed for straight bars.

The Nervacero spooler lines are designed for twist-free-winding of 8- to 32-mm diameter rebars or up to 22-mm diameter plain bars, in up to 3.5-tonne ultra-compact coils, at finishing speeds of up to 35 meter/second.

Startup of the new line is scheduled to take place by the third quarter of 2006.

Nervacero SA is part of the Celsa Group.
