Doubts Arise Over China’s Latest Steel Production Numbers
01/22/2024 - Skepticism is again rising over China’s official economic activity measures, with steel being a prime case in point, report the (London) Financial Times.
According to the Times, steel output, according to the numbers was set for a significant year-over-year expansion, but suddenly fell in December, dropping 15% year over year.
“It is fair to say that we don’t believe these numbers,” BMO Capital Markets analyst Colin Hamilton told the Times.
