EMSTEEL First Company in MENA to Receive ResponsibleSteel Certification
08/12/2025 - EMSTEEL’s steel business, Emirates Steel Industries, has become the first company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to receive ResponsibleSteelTM Core Site Certification.
Internationally recognized certification body CARES performed an extensive audit, after which the certification was awarded. The steel business was evaluated against a set of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria reflecting high standards of ethical business conduct and environmental responsibility.
“As the first company in the MENA region to meet this global benchmark, we’re proud to continue driving national advanced manufacturing goals, while setting industry benchmarks for decarbonizing the steel value chain,” said Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, chief executive officer of EMSTEEL.
The company said this milestone marks an important step in advancing sustainable, transparent and low-CO2 steel production in line with global standards within the region.
“This certification not only shows that sustainability standards can be applied effectively across different regions but also reflects the sustained progress being made by companies like EMSTEEL,” said Annie Heaton, chief executive officer of ResponsibleSteel.
The certification follows EMSTEEL’s being named a 2025 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association. They are the only company in the MENA region to receive this distinction as well.
