Essar Steel Reports Highest Monthly Production of Crude Steel in March

Essar steel announced its highest-ever monthly crude steel production of 380,000 tonnes in March 2011, a growth of 24.04% over the same period a year ago.
 
The company also reported the production of 397,000 tonnes of finished steel in March, a 25.41% increase over finished steel production in March 2010.
 
Essar Steel is close to completing the expansion of its annual steelmaking capacity to 10 million tonnes. As part of this expansion, Essar Steel has already commissioned two ironmaking units – a blast furnace with an annual capacity of 1.73 million tonnes and a DRI unit of 1.74 million tonnes, as well as a 2.5 million tonne/year ConArc furnace, a 1.45 million tonne/year continuous caster and a 3.5 million tonne/year CSP mill.
 
According to the company, once the expansion is completed, Essar Steel will be the country’s largest flat steel producer in a single location. The company also recently commissioned India’s first 5-meter wide plate mill with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes/year.
