Evraz Acquires Carbofer Metall in Russia

Evraz Group S.A. has closed the deal with Carbofer Group for the acquisition of Carbofer Metall, one of the largest Russian steel distribution networks. Evraz notes that the acquisition is part of its plan to increase direct sales of steel products to end customers in Russia.
Carbofer Metall consists of six steel trading companies with 35 steel service centers located throughout Russia. In 2008, it shipped 1.2 million tonnes of long products and generated revenues of US$1.07 billion. Evraz sold about 25% of its construction products produced in Russia through Carbofer Metall in 2008.
Evraz Group S.A. is one of the largest vertically integrated steel, mining, and vanadium businesses in the world. In 2007, Evraz produced 16.4 million tonnes of crude steel, 12.6 million tonnes of pig iron, and 15.2 million tonnes of rolled products. For the first half 2008, the consolidated revenues were US$10,726 million and EBITDA were US$3,700 million. Evraz Group’s principal metallurgical assets include three of Russia’s leading steel plants: Nizhny Tagil (NTMK) in the Urals region and West Siberian (Zapsib) and Novokuznetsk (NKMK) in Siberia.
