Hertha Metals Begins Construction of Chalyx Plant
10/09/2026 - Hertha Metals broke ground on its first commercial plant Hertha Chalyx in Conroe, Texas, USA, where it plans to develop and scale its process for making primary iron and steel, Businesswire reported.
“Over the last two years, our team has worked relentlessly to prove the promise of our technology through production. With Chalyx, we take the next step: proving the business and demonstrating that our technology can deliver commercially,” said Laureen Meroueh, chief executive officer and founder of Hertha Metals.
While Chalyx will prioritize high-purity iron for American rare earth magnet manufacturers, it will also produce iron and steel for trials with steel producers and manufacturers. The report said the facility will run on domestic iron ore and natural gas.
The company expects Chalyx to come on-line in late 2027 and magnet-grade high-purity iron production to begin in early 2028.
