Hoa Phat Starts Up New Production Line From Primetals Technologies

The companies said the project included two slab casters, a hot strip mill, automation systems and digitalization solutions. Other features include through-process quality control, a quality control system, digital assistants and a production management system.

Primetals Technologies said that it received the final acceptance certificate for the hot strip mill. Both casters have also been successfully started up. Production of 1.5-mm low-carbon steel coil has already begun.

“The automation and digitalization systems from Primetals Technologies have helped operators minimize manual tasks, enabled equipment to operate with high reliability, and improved productivity. Thanks to the comprehensive solutions, we have also seen improvements in product quality and flexibility to adapt to changing production conditions,” said Ngo Thoi Nguyen, vice plant director at Hoa Phat.

The 2-strand casters produce slabs with a thickness of 230 mm and widths between 900 to 1,650 mm and speeds up to 2 m per minute. They have process control and optimization systems including LevCon and DynaFlex and an estimated capacity of 6 million metric tons annually.

The hot strip mill produces coils with weights up to 36 metric tons, thicknesses between 1.2 to 25.4 mm and widths from 900 to 1,650 mm. The mill has a slab-sizing press, two single-stand reversing roughing mill stands with attached edgers, a 7-stand finishing mill, three downcoilers, laminar cooling and auxiliary systems. Four stands have pair cross technology, the companies said.

The facility features the conditioning monitoring system Asset Life Expert (ALEX) along with Contour, Flatness Optimizer and Hot Mill Steering Expert.
