Hot Rolled Band Prices Firming, Latest SteelBenchmarker Report Says
02/13/2013 - The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarkerTM World export HRB price for 11 February 2013 rose 2.4% to $592 per tonne, FOB the port of export, for the third consecutive time.
The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarkerTM World export HRB price for 11 February 2013 rose 2.4% to $592 per tonne, FOB the port of export, for the third consecutive time. The Chinese HRB ex-works price rose 1.5% to $557 per tonne, for the fourth consecutive time. The United States HRB spot price rose 1.2% to $696 per tonne, FOB the mill, after falling three times. The Western European HRB price slipped 0.3% to $659 per tonne (on a Euro basis, it slipped 0.4%), ex-works, after rising five consecutive times.
In its one hundred sixty fifth report, the SteelBenchmarkerTM released 10 steel product and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled band for 11 February 2013:
U.S. – $696 per tonne ($631 per ton), FOB the mill – up $8 per tonne from $688 ($624 ton) two weeks ago, up $44 per tonne from the recent low of $652 ($591 ton) on 22 October 2012, and down $120 per tonne from the recent high of $816 ($740 ton) on 23 January 2012. It is down $507 (42.1%) per tonne from the record peak of $1,203 ($1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
China – $557 per tonne, ex-works – up $8 per tonne from $549 two weeks ago, up $150 per tonne from the previous low of $407 on 12 October 2009, and down $80 per tonne from the recent high of $637 on 22 August 2011. It is down $176 (24.0%) from the record peak of $733 on 14 July 2008.
Western Europe – $659 (€490) per tonne, ex-works – down $2 per tonne from $661 (€492) per tonne two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was down €2), up $88 (up €109) from the previous low of $571 (€381) on 23 November 2009, and down $41 (€30) per tonne from the recent high of $700 (€520) on 27 February 2012. It is down $545 (€266) (45.3%) from the record peak of $1,204 (€756) on 14 July 2008.
World Export Price – $592 per tonne, FOB the port of export – up $14 per tonne from $578 two weeks ago, up $96 per tonne from the previous low of $496 on 9 November 2009, and down $64 per tonne from the recent high of $656 on 12 March 2012. It is down $521 (46.8%) per tonne from the record peak of $1,113 on 28 July 2008.
