India’s Vedanta to Double Capacity at ESL Steel
03/28/2022 - Indian natural resources conglomerate Vedanta Ltd. announced a US$348 million investment to expand capacity at its ESL Steel Ltd. integrated mill in Bokaro, Jharkhand, from 1.5 to 3 million metric tons per year, according to an announcement.
In an official filing with the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., Vedanta said the investment will include installation of a second 1,050 m3 capacity blast furnace, 0.5-million-metric-ton-per-annum (MTPA)-capacity coke ovens, a 1.8-MTPA pelletizing plant and an 800-metric-ton-per-day basic oxygen furnace.
In addition, ESL Steel Ltd. will receive a new ductile iron pipe plant capable of producing 0.18 million metric tons of pipe per year, Vedanta said.
