JD Fields HDM Spiralweld Mill to Open Pipe Pile Fabrication Center

The new facility will convert international and domestic steel plates and coils into specialized structural steel to support infrastructure throughout the U.S. The companies said the site’s proximity to facilities and marine infrastructure through the Port of Baltimore will allow them to reach a wider variety of customers and projects.

“With their national recognition and leadership in steel fabrication, this partnership will play an important role in Maryland’s manufacturing industry for years to come,” said Maryland department of commerce secretary Harry Coker Jr.

The companies said the new center will be 200,000 square feet and located on a 13-acre site. The project is expected to create about 150 jobs and represent a capital investment of US$50 million from JD Fields, including US$1.8 million from state and county investments.

“We are delighted that JD Fields HDM Spiralweld Mill chose to expand their operations at Tradepoint Atlantic, and we look forward to the return of steel manufacturing at Sparrows Point,” said Baltimore County executive Kathy Klausmeier.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026 while operations are expected to begin in early 2027, according to the press release.
