Jingye Turns to SMS group for Wire Rod Line Modernization
03/11/2026 - SMS group announced it will modernize Jingye (Yingkou) Medium Plate Co. Ltd.’s No. 1 high-speed wire rod line at its Yingkou plant in China to expand its product diameter range.
The companies said the upgrade will expand the product range to include smooth rounds of 5 to 25 mm in diameter and rebars from 6 to 16 mm. The production capabilities will expand to include more steel grades including high carbon, tire cord, welding wire, cold heading, spring, tool, bearing and free-cutting steels. There will be a maximum rolling speed of about 115 m per second.
The upgrade covers supply and integration of a core rolling solution with an 8-stand finishing block and a 4-stand MEERdrive®PLUS sizing block. It will use SMS’s mill design and integrated rolling process. The 8-stand finishing block has a V-type topcross 45° arrangement, tungsten carbide rings and roll gaps.
SMS group said it will also provide process optimization support and operational training. This is the latest upgrade between the partner companies that have worked together since 2012.
The companies said commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
