JISCO Rolls First Plate on New 4,200-mm Heavy Plate Mill From SMS group
09/23/2025 - JISCO Hongxing Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. celebrated the completion and commissioning of its new 4,200-mm heavy plate mill from SMS group.
SMS group said it provided a comprehensive package from its X-Pact® automation system which has already shown stable process performance. The setup provides precise tracking and coordinated sequence control throughout the hot area to ensure all system components operate well together.
“The solution delivers the process performance and continuity we require to fully realize our expanded capacity,” said Cao Shihai, vice president of JISCO Hongxing.
The system features the X-Pact Pass Schedule Calculation (PSC®), X-Pact Batch Schedule Handler and X-Pact Profile and Flatness Control. The head-tail end thickness compensation function, integrated within the in-bar thickness control system, counteracts thickness variations of about 500 mm near the head and tail ends. This improved plate yield and enhanced production continuity, the company said.
“The state-of-the-art automation solution provided by SMS group was instrumental in achieving a smooth and timely first plate at JISCO’s new 4,200-millimeter heavy plate mill,” said Peter Langner, chief executive officer of SMS China.
JISCO said the first plate was rolled on schedule on 28 August 2025. The new mill will expand the company’s production portfolio beyond the limitations of its existing 2,800-mm plate mill.
The companies said with hot commissioning complete, they will now focus on stabilizing production and driving continuous optimization for sustained high performance levels at the facility.
