JSW Steel Ltd. reported crude steel production of 453,000 tonnes for October 2009, growth of 34% compared to the 338,000 tonnes produced last October.
Rolled flat products were up 19%: 296,000 tonnes compared to 248,000 tonnes. Rolled long products showed growth of 145%, with 75,000 tonnes produced this October compared to last year’s 30,000 tonnes.
The production for October 2009 was lower sequentially, according to JSW, due to “unprecedented and incessant rains” followed by flooding in the southern part of India during the first week of the month, which disrupted plant operations at Vijayanagar works. The company notes that its plant at Vijayanagar works is now operating normally.
