JSW Steel Posts 20% Growth in Crude Steel Production

JSW Steel Ltd. reported crude steel production of 506,000 tonnes for April 2010, a 20% increase compared to the 422,000 tonnes produced in the corresponding month last fiscal year.
 
Rolled flat products showed growth of 28%, with 347,000 tonnes produced in April 2010 vs. 270,000 tonnes last April. Rolled long products are up 86%—105,000 tonnes compared to last year’s 56,000 tonnes.
 
The company has announced commercial operation from April 10 for the recently commissioned 3.5-MTPA second Hot Strips Mill at Vijayanagar works. The new hot strip mill produced about 36,000 tonnes in the first month of commissioning.
