JSW Steel Posts Increased Crude Steel Production in February

JSW Steel Limited reported an 8.5% increase in crude steel production in February 2009 compared to February 2008. The total includes trial production of 18,262 tonnes from its recently commissioned 4019-m3 Blast Furnace (India’s largest) — in February 2009.
 
Including trial production from the newly commissioned blast furnace, the company produced 331,000 tonnes of crude steel in February, reflecting a sequential growth of 3% over January 2009. JSW Steel commissioned the expansion project at Vijayanagar works in February 2009, expanding its capacity from 3.8 million tonnes per year to 6.8 million tonnes per year. This unit is currently under trial production.
 
In recognition of its continuous quality management initiatives, JSW Steel Limited., Vijayanagar Works was awarded “Performance Excellence Trophy” from IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Awards 2008.
 
The company also produced 257,000 tonnes of flat rolled products in February, a 3.9% increase vs. February 2008, and 43,000 tonnes of long products, a 66.4% increase. The rolled products tonnage includes production from an ongoing expansion project.
